What 'brand-name' and 'generic' actually describe
When a pharmaceutical company develops a new medication, it brings it to market under a brand name after FDA review through a New Drug Application (NDA). These components carry and deliver the active ingredient, but they are not themselves understood to be responsible for its primary activity.
